Oracle Error VTK-1000 - To backup, restore, etc. in Oracle 9i you must have OMS set up first

Category: Oracle
Category: Setting up Oracle Management Server

If you try to run utilities from the Oracle Enterprise Manager, including backup, restore, import, export etc., it will return an error saying that you must connect to an Oracle Management Server. If you have not set up an OMS on your machine, here is how:

In Windows, click Start - Run and enter CMD or COMMAND (depends on which version of Windows, if one doesn't work try the other)

At the DOS prompt that comes up, type "emca" without the quotes and press Enter.

A wizard should now come up with the defaults, you can accept the defaults and just step through the wizard unless you have a specific reason to change anything.

A local repository for Oracle Management Server will then be set up.

Once it is set up, run Enterprise Manager again, choose "Login to the Orcle Management Server" as the desired login option, and enter "sysman" as the user ID and "oem_temp" as the password.
