Asked Questions
Will I be able to access my domain name with or without
the www. at the beginning?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain name
with or without the WWW in front. For example, you can access
the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to www.mydomain.com
as well as mydomain.com. Many web hosting providers
do not provide this capability.
Do you offer dial-up internet access?
No, you will need local Internet access in order
to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to
you via your site. Providing a specialized Virtual Server
service means that we do not have hundreds of modems and lines
to maintain, enabling us to devote more time to our customers
web presence needs.
Do you support MS Frontpage extensions?
Yes.
Do you support ASP pages?
Yes. You can have unlimited DSN-less database connections
as well, if you need them.
Do you support Cold Fusion?
Yes.
Do you support PHP3?
Yes.
Do you support Microsoft Access databases?
Yes. Many of our sites including this one use an
Access database for dynamic page generation.
How long does it take before my domain name is
active?
Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name
has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually
takes about 72 hours before it is active. All internet providers
must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site
locations. This is called propagation. In our experience domains
have been live within 48 hours of being registered.
How do I transfer files to my web site?
Files must be transferred to the web server via
File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you need FTP software,
you can download a program for either the PC or Mac from a
variety of sites. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve,
and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface. We offer unlimited
FTP access so you can update your site as often as you want,
whenever you want. Some places to download from: www.download.com
www.shareware.com.
Some FTP program makers: BulletProof
CuteFTP FTP
Explorer
What if I don't want to learn all this FTP HTML mumbo-jumbo?
We offer a great optional feature called TenVolt
Remote Control in the sites we design. This feature
allows you to update your site from any Internet-connected
computer, with no HTML knowledge or uploading necessary. To
read more click here or contact
us for more information on how TenVolt Remote Control
can be incorporated into your new or existing site.
Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
You have unlimited access via FTP or TenVolt Remote
Control 24 hours a day, notwithstanding technical difficulties.
As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your
own computer and upload files to your web site at your convenience.
How do I add/delete/change one of my email addresses?
Please use the request form here.
What settings do I use for my email program?
Your SMTP server or POP server should both be set to
mail.yourdomain.com . Your login or username
will be your email address (e.g. if your email address is
joe@ yourdomain.com, your user name or login will be joe).
Your password will be provided when the account is created.
What sort of server hardware will my domain be hosted
on?
Server Type: Microsoft Windows NT Server (for ASP services),
Unix (for static web and email services).
Will I be able to run Perl / CGI scripts?
Yes.
Will I have any problems if I decide to get my own server
or take my domain somewhere else?
Although we will obviously do everything we can to keep you
as a satisfied customer, a situation may arise where you wish
to move your domain. Rest assured we will do everything in
our power to make the transition as smooth as possible. We
will register your domain in your name so that you have sole
authority to move it or otherwise control it.
Will I be able to run Java and Javascript programs from
my site?
Yes, Java and Javascript are browser dependent, meaning as
long as the "web-surfer" has a browser that supports
it, your program will run. If you are running Java or Javascript
programs, you will probably want to recommend that your site
visitors use Netscape 4 or IE 4 or newer to benefit from the
features of your site.
Do you offer technical support to customers ?
Yes. We encourage our customers to send email to support@tenvolt.com
with questions or concerns about their web site. We are quick
to respond to support email almost around the clock. If we
cannot offer a solution to a concern within a reasonable time
frame, we will invite you to call us or we'll call you directly.
